Beholder Guide

Beholder is a special subfactor Aberrant in JUST ONE MORE ASYM. Unlike regular Aberrants (Seeker, Guilt, Lord), Beholder is a support-type enemy that replaces the Aberrant under specific conditions — currently triggering on a basic 1-in-15 chance to replace the current Aberrant while a new spawn system is developed. With only 900 HP and mediocre offensive stats, Beholder is essentially a stronger version of Spotter. Its kit focuses on revealing Survivors, pulling them with projectiles, and applying devastating long-term debuffs through Overmark. Beholder heavily prioritizes backliners and support Survivors, deliberately avoiding tanks unless forced.

Community lore describes Beholder as a creature born from the Overflow’s depths — part of the surveillance network that tracks Survivors for stronger entities. Its weaker player-controlled counterpart is Spotter, just as Seeker’s counterpart is Chaser and Guilt’s is Sin.

Beholder role and spawn conditions

  • Replaces the Aberrant on a ~1-in-15 chance during regular rounds.
  • Can also spawn as a wandering variant.
  • Previous spawn conditions (playing as Spotter, Wandering Spotter attacks) are temporarily replaced while a new system is developed.
  • When it replaces the Aberrant, the full 4v16 format still applies — 3 player Adversaries support the Beholder.
  • Beholder is the only AI entity that can serve as both a Juggernaut and an Aberrant.

Kit overview

Swipe

  • Basic forward attack dealing 20 damage.
  • Short cooldown.

Finder

  • Beholder stands still and reveals every Survivor on the map to all Adversaries for 12 seconds.
  • Self-applies Swiftness (7s) and buffs all present Adversaries with Swiftness I (7s) and +25 stamina gain.

Scryer (Pull variant)

  • Predictively throws a projectile that goes through walls and pierces multiple targets.
  • Larger hitbox than Spotter’s equivalent, can be aimed vertically.
  • On hit: 15 true damage, pulls target toward Beholder, applies Stagger, Slowness V (3s), Weakness IV (4s), and Tracker I (12s).
  • Self-applies Swiftness I (4s) on successful hit.
  • 1-second windup; Beholder gets a gray highlight when using this ability.

Scryer (Push variant)

  • Switchable mode that pushes Survivors away instead of pulling.

Overmark

  • Beholder stands still for 3.5s and flashes gray on all screens.
  • Headbangs and applies Overmark to all Survivors in vision.
  • Overmark effects: Intimidated I (3s), Slowness II (20s), Fatigue III (25s), Tracker II (30s), Overmarked +50%% damage taken (30s), Weakpoint (3.5s), full stamina drain, location revealed.
  • At 66.7%% and 33.3%% HP thresholds, a higher-pitched sound cue triggers a special variant — Beholder spins while Overmarking, draining max HP twice as fast and applying a stronger Weakpoint (6s).
  • During Overmark, Beholder gains Resistance V (3.5s) and becomes Immovable.
  • Cooldown: 30s.

Switch

  • Toggles Scryer between Pull and Push variants.

Playstyle for Adversaries

When Beholder spawns, adapt your strategy:

  1. Follow the reveal — Finder shows all Survivor positions; prioritize backliners.
  2. Scryer sets up kills — watch for the pull/push projectile to line up follow-up damage.
  3. Overmark is the win condition — 30s of +50%% damage taken and permanent stamina drain ends rounds.
  4. Protect Beholder during Overmark — it becomes Immovable and is vulnerable.
  5. Focus targets marked by Tracker — Overmark chain is how you close rounds.

Counterplay for Survivors

  1. Disrupt Overmark cast — Beholder is vulnerable and Immovable during the 3.5s cast.
  2. Stay spread during Finder — reveals all positions; reposition after it ends.
  3. Block Scryer projectiles — use cover to break line of sight during the 1s windup.
  4. Heal through Tracker — mark longevity matters; Medkits and Hemomancer sustain help.
  5. Kill Beholder before 66.7%% HP — the enhanced Overmark variant at low HP is devastating.

Lore and lore connections

Beholder is described as a creature born from Overflow corruption — a surveillance entity without its own will, following the predestined tides of fate. Its black corrosive essence assimilates anything it touches. As Beholders grow more experienced, they gain sentience and master their physical form, creating tendrils and hardening into rock-like structures for durability. Despite growing intelligence, all Spotters and Beholders remain subservient to the greater Overflow will.

Beholder heralds the advent of far worse abominations — its presence often precedes Lord Aberrant or Archfactor spawns.
