JUST ONE MORE ASYM Wiki Custodian Adversary Guide
Protect fragile hunters with shields and armor — master Custodian's unique Defense mechanic in JUST ONE MORE ASYM.
Custodian is a Support-Tank Adversary in JUST ONE MORE ASYM released August 5, 2026. Despite only 400 HP, Custodian boasts a unique Defense stat that absorbs damage before it reaches health — making them deceptively durable against sustained chip damage while remaining vulnerable to burst. Their role is protecting fragile hunters like Chaser and Firework so they can commit without worrying about their low HP pools.
Custodian plays differently from every other Adversary: they are not a damage dealer. Your job is to stand in front of your teammates, absorb attention, and use Seize to reposition Survivors for your team to delete. If you want to deal damage, play Firework or Executioner instead.
Role identity
Custodian is a support-tank — not a brawler. You do not hunt Survivors directly. You:
- Protect fragile high-damage Adversaries (Chaser, Firework, Anarchist) during commits
- Body-block exits and choke points
- Seize and throw Survivors into your team or off edges
- Tremor shockwave in mid-fights to CC groups and restore Defense
Your passive Iron Construct scales with Defense: at 50 Defense you are immune to Stagger, at 40 you ignore Stall and Knockback, at 20 you resist Burning and Vulnerable. Playing Custodian means managing Defense uptime — it decays from damage taken and regenerates slowly out of combat.
Iron Construct passive
Custodian starts each life with 50 Defense. Damage taken is reduced by the Defense value (minimum 1 damage per hit). Defense decays by damage/5 per hit (1–8 range) and regenerates at 0.2/s normally, tripled below 15 Defense, capped at 40.
Defense thresholds grant immunities:
| Defense | Immunity |
|---|---|
| 50 | Starting — full damage reduction |
| 40+ | Stagger immunity |
| 30+ | Stall and Knockback immunity |
| 20+ | Burning and Vulnerable immunity |
Landing M1 attacks restores 1 Defense — stay aggressive on the frontline to maintain thresholds.
Abilities
Punch (M1)
Simple forward punch dealing 12 damage on a 1s cooldown. Your lowest-damage ability — use to restore Defense and maintain pressure, not to secure kills.
Brace
Raise your arms in a blocking stance lasting up to 2.5s or until 80 damage is absorbed. While active:
- Defense is replaced with Resistance III and +20% movement speed
- The nearest ally gains Protected — all hits and status effects redirect to you instead
- Exiting (voluntarily or durability depleted) applies Slowness III (2s) and Vulnerable III (5s) to yourself; Defense does not regenerate during Brace
Cooldown: 4s base, increases based on durability consumed. Fully broken Brace applies Weakpoint (4s) and Stall V (5s) to you.
Tip: Brace when your team is committing on a target — Protected redirects all damage to you, letting Chaser or Firework go full aggro without fear of retaliation.
Seize
Stand still and grab the nearest Survivor in front of you (fails on larger targets). You hold them for up to 2.5 seconds with two follow-up options:
Slam (replaces Brace): Spin and slam the held Survivor into the ground — 25 damage, Ragdoll (2s), and restore 3 Defense. Direct Tremor hits before Slam halve its damage.
Launch (replaces Seize): Throw the held Survivor in your aim direction — 15 initial damage, turns them into a projectile that hits other Survivors for another 15 damage plus Ragdoll (1s). Chain launches can delete grouped Survivors.
Cooldown: 16s. Seize does not work on larger targets (Shielder, Prosecutor).
Tremor
Dash forward controllably, then slam your arms down to create a shockwave:
- AoE: 10 non-lethal damage + Stagger to all in range (does not bypass walls)
- Center (direct hit): 25 lethal damage + Ragdoll (2s) + Vulnerable (3s) + restore 6 Defense
Each Survivor hit in the shockwave restores 1 Defense.
Cooldown: 21s
Shed
Kneel and rapidly shed armor at 1 per 0.15s. During shedding you cannot attack or move. If you shed 25+ armor, gain Swiftness I (3s). Cooldown: 15s. After use, no Defense regeneration for 6s.
Playstyle pillars
- Stay near your damage dealers — Brace Protected only works if allies are close
- Maintain Defense thresholds — below 30 and you start taking Stall/Knockback
- Seize launches score multi-kills — throw Survivors into grouped teammates
- Tremor restores Defense — use in mid-fights to regain threshold immunities
- You are not a damage dealer — Custodian wins by enabling kills, not dealing them
Team combinations
| Partner | Synergy |
|---|---|
| Chaser | Protected lets Chaser commit without fearing retaliation |
| Firework | Firework survives DETONATE wind-up behind your Brace |
| Seeker (Aberrant) | Body-block exits while Seeker pounces |
| Guilt (Aberrant) | Hold Survivors in place for Boulder/Landslide |
Survivor counters
Custodian is not a chase threat — their M1 is weak and their speed is average. Survivors should:
- Ignore Custodian if possible — focus the damage dealers behind them
- Burst Custodian below 20 Defense — Burning and Vulnerable make Brace risky
- Do not get grabbed — Seize throw chain can delete entire stacks
- Use heavy single-hit damage — multi-hit abilities reduce Defense faster
Map habits
- District: Block parking lot exits so Chaser can cut rotations
- Double Runes: Pillar Brace protects Firework during Trailblaze setup
- Cloud Nine: Tremor shockwave on bridges; Launch Survivors into laser zones
- Green Garden: Seize from behind the central platform, Launch toward edges
Custodian lore
Custodians are the Overflow’s vanguard force — goliaths created during the Doomspire Wars and used as Archfactor Obelisk’s primary unit against the four towers. Their heavy shields are said to be indestructible. In JOMA, they serve as the first advancement unit of the Overflow’s legion.
Common mistakes
- Bracing at full Defense — you waste the immunity thresholds; Brace when below 30
- Seizing alone — you hold them but your team cannot follow up
- Ignoring Tremor recovery — shockwave is how you regain Defense mid-fight
- Chasing Survivors — Custodian is a protector, not a duelist
- Shed at wrong time — 6s of no regeneration is dangerous in active fights

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about JOMA.
How much HP does Custodian have?
Custodian has only 400 HP — the low number is offset by the unique Defense mechanic that absorbs damage before it reaches health.
What does Defense do in JOMA?
Defense reduces all damage taken by its current value (minimum 1). It also grants immunities at threshold levels: 40+ blocks Stagger, 30+ blocks Stall and Knockback, 20+ blocks Burning and Vulnerable.
Is Custodian a good Adversary?
Custodian is a support-tank designed to protect fragile damage dealers. They are not a damage threat themselves but enable picks like Chaser and Firework to commit safely.
What is Protected in Brace?
Brace's Protected effect redirects all hits and status effects from the nearest ally to you instead. Time Brace when your damage dealers are about to commit.
Custodian or Shielder — which protects better?
Custodian's Brace Protected is team-wide for one ally; Shielder's Rally redirects damage from all nearby allies. Different tools for different moments.
